What is 365 Advance Threat Protection and why should I care?

365 Advance Threat Protection (ATP) is a security solution provided by Microsoft that is designed to protect Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365) users from advanced cyber threats. It uses a variety of technologies to detect and prevent various types of attacks, including malware, phishing, and ransomware.

365 ATP includes several components that work together to provide comprehensive security protection, such as:

  1. Safe Attachments: This feature scans email attachments for potentially harmful content before delivering them to the recipient.
  2. Safe Links: This feature checks URLs in emails and documents to ensure they don’t lead to malicious websites.
  3. Anti-phishing protection: This feature identifies and blocks phishing emails and websites.
  4. Threat intelligence: This feature uses machine learning and AI to analyze threats and provide real-time threat intelligence to users.
  5. Reporting and tracking: This feature provides detailed reports and analytics to help administrators monitor security incidents and improve security practices.

365 ATP is designed to provide a multi-layered approach to security that helps protect against a variety of threats. If you are an enterprise organisation using office 365 email, in my opinion, ATP provides wholesome security solutions, compare to other 3rd party email security solutions such as ProofPoint, MimeCast, Baracuda ESG or Mailguard. ATP is available as an add-on to Microsoft 365 E3. Microsoft 365 E5 has included everything you need for security.
